The EBRSO School Drug Task Force responded to Westdale Middle School located at 5650 Claycut Road this morning around 11:00 in reference to an unloaded gun found in the book bag of a 7th grade student.
According to reports, an anonymous student informed a school administrator that the student had a gun. The administrator located the unloaded weapon inside a 14-year-old student’s backpack and he stated it belonged to another 13-year-old student. The second student, a 13-year-old 7th grader, stated he took it from home sometime last week. He said when he showed it to the 14-year-old student and a third student (not charged) he threatened the third student not to tell anyone about the gun. The gun found by the administrator had no ammunition nor magazine.
The 14-year-old 7th grader is charged with Illegally Carrying of a Firearm On a School property, Firearm Free Zone.

“This case is a prime example of how important it is that students come forward if they are aware of a weapon at school,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. “Having that kind of information along with our School Resource Officers and School Drug Task Force made all the difference in preventing anything more serious.”
